FAQ
What exactly is herbal medicine?
Herbal medicine is the use of plants to support the body’s natural healing processes. Different parts of the plant (leaves, roots, flowers, seeds) are used to create remedies that work gently over time to restore balance in the body. It’s one of the oldest forms of medicine in the world and is still widely used today to support everything from digestion to hormones to sleep.
Is it like drinking tea?
Sometimes, yes. Teas (also called infusions or decoctions) are one way to take herbs, but we also use tinctures (which are liquid extracts), powders, capsules, oils, creams and more. The form depends on what’s going on in your body and what’s easiest for you to stick with.
Can herbal medicine help with hormonal issues like PMS or PCOS?
Absolutely. Hormonal imbalances respond really well to herbs, especially when they’re tailored to your specific cycle, constitution, and symptoms. I often work with women dealing with PMS, PCOS, heavy bleeding, fibroids, painful periods, or mood swings - herbs can be a beautiful part of the healing process.
How long does it take to work?
It depends on what we’re working on. Some people feel better within a week or two, especially with things like sleep, digestion, or anxiety. For deeper hormonal imbalances, it’s usually a longer process, think one to three months for noticeable changes and sometimes longer for chronic conditions. Herbal medicine isn’t a quick fix, it’s about building real, lasting balance in the body.
Is it safe? Will it interact with medications?
That’s one of the first things I check before making any recommendations. If you’re on medication, I’ll make sure the herbs I choose won’t interfere or cause any unwanted effects. Safety and evidence-based care are always part of the process.
What happens in a consultation?
We spend about an hour talking through your full health picture: your symptoms, history, digestion, sleep, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, and cycle if that’s relevant. From there, I create a personalised herbal blend just for you, along with any other suggestions that might support you. It’s relaxed, respectful, and all about meeting you where you are.
Do I need to believe in it for it to work?
Nope. Herbal medicine works on a physiological level, not just belief. But I do believe in creating space for you to feel seen and heard, and that emotional support can amplify healing. You don’t need to be “spiritual” or “crunchy” to benefit - just open to learning what your body might be asking for.
Can I just buy a tea off your site without a consultation?
Soon! I’m working on releasing a small range of pre-blended herbal teas for common concerns like period pain, sleep, and stress. These are designed to be safe and effective for most people. Enter your email address in the box at the bottom of this page to be the first to know when these launch! If you're dealing with something more complex or want a custom formula, a consultation is the best route.
What if I’m not sure this is for me?
That’s totally okay. Herbal medicine isn’t for everyone, and you don’t have to commit right away. If you're curious, you’re welcome to reach out, ask questions, or book a free 15-minute discovery chat to see if it feels like a good fit.
